Hi Mo. you don't know me but I decided to write cause I loved your blog. I am from Brazil and have been studying in NY since 2001. I am now studying in Amsterdam for a year. All of this to tell you that I shared some of the same feelings that you wrote about. Of course the cultural differences I encountered were smaller but they were still there. Reading your blog made me remember a lecture I attended by Azar Nafisi the Iranian writer from Reading Lolita in Tehran. Drawing from Theodor Adorno’s “ the highest
form of morality is to not feel at home in one's own home” she expanded to say something like that “ to feel home in one’s own country is too dangerous because one does not question its own ideas, values, concepts. Once forced to leave, one has to create one’s own home and it is in this process that one creates and discovers one’s own beliefs, values and ideas.”

Dear `...'
Hey, thanks for posting Brazillian friend! The more the merrier, this party is an open one! I`m glad that my blog is bringing joy to a diversity of people in this mad world of ours.
I gretly appreciate that last quote, I think I`m going to have to put that author on my `must read list.`
Do you have a blog, friend? I`ll put up a link so that my friends can become your friends!
Happy trails in your travels!
Peace,
Momo
