Osaka Museum of Art. Went to see the Van Gogh exhibit, which is funny when you consider that I came to Japan to see "new" things, and I've actually been to see Gogh twice before.
But the curators of this show did something rather interesting, and worked to dispel the portal that Gogh was a raving madman whose paintings were reflections of a demented mind. They had a lot of museum-type items alongside the art itself, and also displayed a lot of work by Gogh's contemporaries. The overall effect was that this unique collection contextualized his art, thus making his art more accessable; coming from a place the average individual could understand and relate with. Though provoking.
Just goes to show, you can look at truly fine art one hundred times, and then one hundred times again, and always see something "new."
