Tom Cruise was certainly not the only reason to see "The Last Samurai." There is a scene early in the movie where samurai warriors battle in the woods, and it is nothing short of terrifying and suspenseful. Standing in front of this amazing and abstract armor, I could sense the metamorphosis a samurai experienced when going to battle.
